IE Network Conference Workshop

Communicating with Climate Change Skeptics Workshop

Sunday, October 25, 2009

Location: Community Room in the basement.

Session 1 - 4:30-5:00 PM, Session 2 - 5:10-5:40 PM, Session 3 - 5:50-6:20 PM

Title of Session:

Communicating with Climate Change Skeptics

While it is clear to the world's climate scientists that human-induced global climate change is a reality, some of our neighbors still consider it a debatable issue. Have you been caught in conversation with a climate change skeptic and not been able to respond with confidence? Wouldn't it be helpful to be able to explain the causes and cite the evidence?

The purpose of this workshop is to acquaint us with the science that explains and documents the causes and effects of global warming. We will also discuss the challenges and opportunities created by this historic transition.

Presenter:

Dr. George Stone, Milwaukee Area Technical College

Dr. George Stone teaches a range of courses in the earth sciences at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), including Earth Science, General Geology, Weather Fundamentals, Climate Change Fundamentals and Energy in Nature, Technology and Society. (Please see his MATC web page at http://matc.edu/matc_now/georgestone.html.)  He also serves as Co-Chair of the District Sustainability Committee and as Co-Chair of the annual Wisconsin Renewable Energy Summit (http://renewableenergysummit.org/).
