From Steve Herro, Social Concerns Director, Catholic Diocese of Green Bay:
St. Norbert College's Peace and Justice Center and Environmental Club and Diocese of Green Bay are sponsoring the appearance of Dr. Robert Gronski, Communications and Policy Coordinator, National Catholic Rural Life Conference to the Fort Howard Theater, St. Norbert College, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., February 5. The event is free and open to the public. Dr. Gronski has been the primary public policy staff for the National Catholic Rural Life Conference since 1997. In this regard, he has provided extensive support on the Farm Bill and other federal agricultural and ecology legislation.
Gronski's appearance is held in conjunction with the National Teachin on Global Warming. St. Norbert College joins over 600 other institutions of higher education in the United States and Canada in the Teachin. Gronski's presentation will address the moral imperative of global climate change, review what Catholic institutions are doing and can be done to combat global climate change, demonstrate sources available to help Christians in this advocacy, connect Catholic social teaching to this imperative, describe stories and the impact of climate change on the poorest in our society, explain why some have such difficulties accepting these premises, and address upcoming state and federal legislation on the issue of climate change.
"We welcome Dr. Gronski to northeastern Wisconsin. The National Catholic Rural Life Conference has been an important voice regarding climate change, assisting all in connecting this ecological concern with Catholic social teaching," according to Br. Steve Herro, Social Concerns Director. Gronski will also informally meet with members of the diocesan Rural Life Committee and parishioners active in climate change policy during his visit.
For more information, please contact the St. Norbert College Peace and Justice Center, 920-403-3881.

This event has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a future date.
Happy New Year!
Our next Interfaith Earth Network Event will be for high school youth. Please do your best to recruit some high school students to come to Plymouth United Church of Christ in Milwaukee to "Realize the Worth of Serving the Earth!" It's important for our young people to get excited about ecology, and to build relationships with people of different faith traditions. It's also important for adults to lead the way, and encourage them to attend, even if stretches them beyond their comfort zone!
Professor Oops is a an educator and entertainer. He is guaranteed to make your teens laugh! At the April 2008 Interfaith Earth Network conference, he shared a table with the "House of Peace Teen Leaders" -- a group not easy to entertain -- and he had them falling out of their chairs laughing! So he is a treat!
The other presenters -- Paulette Flynn, Mike "The Worm Guy" Flynn (Yes, they are married!), Marty Kleiber, and John Bahr are all experienced presenters with interesting content.
Details are included the flyer. Please contact Lisa with your estimate of how many young people you will be bringing. We would like to hear from you by March 1 regarding your plans to attend.
Please let others know about this event -- and do your best to bring family, friends, neighbors, or teenagers from your congregation's youth group. The best way to recruit is by personal invitation. |
