Climate Change Talk at UEC PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:56

From member Heather Mullee:

Join us for a powerful presentation on Environmental Justice and Climate Change. Please RSVP.

Mark your calendar for Tuesday March 17th! WLCV, Making Milwaukee Green Coalition, Clean Wisconsin and other organizations have teamed up to bring Nia Robinson, the Director of Environmental Justice and Climate Change Initiative at Redefining Progress, to Milwaukee's Urban Ecology Center! Ms. Robinson will share findings from the report "A Climate of Change: African Americans, Global Warming and A Just Climate Policy for the U.S."

"A Climate of Change: African Americans, Global Warming and A Just Climate Policy"

7:00 pm March 17th
Community Room - Milwaukee Urban Ecology Center
1500 E. Park Place
Milwaukee, WI 53211

Early registration is not required, but is appreciated.

Global warming is not an environmental issue alone, and Ms. Robinson will bring to the forefront how social justice and human rights are inextricably linked to climate change. The study details how negative social and economic effects of climate change disproportionately effect marginalized communities. Ms. Robinson will also discuss how to create policy solutions that work to combat climate change and social inequality while providing the best overall policy for the environment and the economy.

This is a great opportunity to hear from one of the leaders in the field of Environmental Justice and Climate Change! Please join us for what will prove to be a fresh take on the way we look at climate change. Please RSVP.

Junior Master Gardeners PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 February 2009 21:10

From member Venice R. Williams

Dear Partners & Friends,

The Center for Resilient Cities and SeedFolks Youth Ministry sponsor a Junior Master Gardeners (JMG) course at Brown Street Academy, at 20th & Brown Streets in Milwaukee, next to Alice' Garden. The four third grade classes (15 students in each class) are participating in the program, which we lead every Wednesday morning.

We are seeking volunteers who are willing to work alongside of students as they read, conduct experiments, work on projects, and in the spring get their hands dirty in the garden. You do not need to have any gardening experience to volunteer!

We are also looking for folks who would be willing to come into the classroom and share their passion for gardening in a hands-on way with the students.

If you have one or two Wednesdays in March, April or May that you could stop by, please contact me.

Thanks and Peace,

Venice R. Williams
