Interfaith Earth Network Fund Appeal
|
The Interfaith Earth Network (IEN) is led by a group of concerned people representing many different religious traditions in the Milwaukee area. We encourage people of diverse cultural, economic and faith perspectives to live, work, pray and worship in environmentally sustainable ways. As a program of the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee in collaboration with the Urban Ecology Center, we generate our own funding.
IEN organizes educational events for adults and youth, assists and networks with congregations and faith leaders, and does advocacy on environmental issues.
This September we completed two eco-justice bus tours for clergy and lay faith leaders that sparked great enthusiasm and got exceptionally positive evaluations from participants. We visited and/or drove past more than a dozen faith-based and secular sites where inspirational, dynamic programs are being implemented. Examples include urban gardening, urban aquaponics, youth outreach, industrial redevelopment, brownfield clean-up, environmental education, solar panel manufacturing and more.
We are partnering with the national GreenFaith organization to present a major regional environmental training conference for clergy, seminarians and lay leaders October 21-22, 2012. Part of this Ground for Hope -- Wisconsin conference will include additional eco-spirit bus tours to unique sites in the Milwaukee area. To help prepare for this event and expand our network, we plan to hire a part time administrative assistant in early 2012.
Any funds we raise in the next few months will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a local foundation.
Contributions are needed for the following:
- Stamps for mailings to leaders at ten congregations - $5
- Printing costs for about 50 IEN color flyers/brochures or posters - $12
- Sponsorship of one Individual for an eco-spirit bus tour - $25
- Subsidy of travel expenses and lodging for one seminarian to attend the Ground for Hope training conference - $100.00
- Rental of bus for one four-hour, eco-spirit tour during 2012, either as part of the Ground for
Hope conference or earlier in the year - $500.00
- One-month salary for part-time staffer - $1000.00
A contribution in any amount is very much appreciated and can be mailed to:
